Library Policies

Library Schedule:

  • Each homeroom is scheduled to come to the library at a specific time each week for instruction and book selection.
  • Students also have an opportunity for open check out on Friday afternoons

Library Procedures:

  • Always bring your library folder and library pass.
  • Go to your assigned table/seat and wait for your table to be called on to check in and check out books.
  • Check in library books at the check in station.  Be sure to look for your name on the screen.
  • Place your checked in book on the  cart.
  • Use a shelf marker and choose a book or books.
  • Turn in shelf marker and line up at the check out station.
  • Scan your book or books and return to your classroom.

Circulation Policies:

All Students :

  • Students must have library orientation and complete lessons on library manners and procedures before they may check out a book.
  • All students that check out library books must have a library folder.  The folders must contain their Student ID Bar Code and their Reading Level information.

Kindergarten:

Classroom teacher may check out books for the students to use in the classroom.

First Graders:

Students must keep  their library books in the classroom until the classroom teacher, librarian and parent agree that the student is responsible and ready to take a book home.

Second Graders:

Students are allowed to check out one book the first semester and two books the second semester.  The classroom teacher determines whether the students are allowed to take their books home.

Third Graders:

Students are allowed to check out two books.  They are asked to only take one library book home at one time.

Fourth Graders:

Students are allowed to check out two books.  A student may check out an additional book if one is needed for a research project.

Fifth Graders:

Students are allowed to check out two books.  A student may check out an additional book if one is needed for a research project.

Library Rules

Respect Others:

  • Enter and Exit the library quietly.
  • Walk, do not run.
  • Listen to stories, lessons and directions.
  • Speak softly in the library.
  • Work quietly.
  • Keep hand, feet and objects to yourself.
  • In addition, all school rules apply in regards to proper behavior.

Respect Library Property:

  • Keep books clean and dry.
  • Never write or color on pages.
  • Keep books in a safe place.
  • Only use book markers to save your place in a book.
  • Return books on time.
  • Make sure book spines are always on display.
  • Take care of library furnishings, displays and equipment.
  • In addition, all school rules apply in regards to proper behavior.

Respect Library Staff

  • Listen and follow directions given by librarian.
  • Treat Library staff with courtesy.
  • In addition, all school rules apply in regards to proper behavior.
  • Say please, Thank you, Work hard, Have fun and READ, READ and READ!
